Joe has written to ScotRail calling on them to offer local commuters a refund on their train tickets after weeks of rail disruptions.
ScotRail will offer refunds to passengers in certain circumstances but extreme weather is one exception to the policy.
Speaking on the matter Councillor Cullinane said,
“Rail passengers have now suffered weeks of disruptions with trains off for days on end due to the weather in addition to the more regular signalling problems and Sunday line works.”
“ScotRail offer refunds to passengers in certain circumstances although the claim process isn’t always well publicised. However, there are exceptions to their policy including disruption caused by extreme weather.”
“Rail travel is expensive, until this year fares increased above inflation on an annual basis increasing the cost of rail travel on people’s budgets as the increases significantly outpaced wages. Given the amount of money people spend on rail and the significant disruptions they have experienced over the last few weeks I have written to ScotRail asking them to treat the recent problems as an exceptional case and offer local passengers a refund on weekly, monthly and seasonal tickets as they did in 2010.”
