The latest figures from the Scottish Funding Council reveal that Ayrshire College has the worst results in Scotland for full time students completing their course successfully - and the College has tried to blame lecturers for going on strike.
Lecturers went on strike last year over a dispute on the College's plan to change their terms and conditions.
Commenting on the issue Joe said;
“It is important to remember that the industrial action stemmed from Ayrshire College looking to bring the terms and conditions of lecturers across the three campuses they inherited, as part of the College merger, into line, resulting in a disproportionate number of lecturers at the Kilwinning campus losing out. It is therefore ridiculous to blame these poor figures on lecturers who were trying to defend their terms and conditions."
“College students deserve the best education possible but instead of making lecturers the scapegoats I think the College would be better focusing on the real issue at hand – the complex issues that arose from merging three colleges and the real terms cuts to college budgets coming from the Scottish Government. They’re the real reasons for this – and the reason why I raised concerns about the merger at the time and continue to campaign against college cuts.”
