Debtbusters is a campaign that was launched by Scottish Labour MSP Kezia Dugdale which aims to tackle the problem of payday loans. Joe has led the campaign in North Ayrshire and has tailored it to the local area.

To date Joe has delivered thousands of leaflets promoting 1st Alliance Credit Union in Kilwinning whilst warning local people of the dangers of using payday loans, held a roundtable event with Kezia Dugdale in Kilwinning and proposed a local action plan to the Council which has led to a Council Working Group being established on the issue.

That working group resulted in 1st Alliance receiving a grant from North Ayrshire Council which will allow it to increase its membership.

Debtbusters has had a huge impact nationally with new regulations proposed to cap the cost of credit and the Scottish Government agreeing to fund "Wealth warnings" and accept changes to licensing laws.

Currently, Joe is working with 1st Alliance and local secondary schools to establish credit union saving clubs in the schools, a project that would be led by the pupils themselves.
