Home Sweet Home

Home_Sweet_Home.jpgHome Sweet Home is our campaign for better housing.

Far too many Scots have no choice when it comes to housing - they are unlikely to get a council house but cannot afford to buy. These Scots are forced into the private rented sector.

Over 150,000 Scottish families are on council house waiting lists, with almost 5000 alone in North Ayrshire, and housing charity Shelter have said we need to build at least 10,000 new social houses each year to start tackling this problem.

Almost 6000 families in North Ayrshire now live in the private rented sector and the number of Scots doing so has more than doubled since 1999. Private rents have risen by over 40% over the last few years. They continue to rise faster than inflation. That's why we think the sector should be fairer.

We have our own ideas on how we can deliver better housing but this campaign is about listening to the housing experiences of local people in order to campaign for better housing for everyone in North Ayrshire. That's why we want to know your views on housing. Please take a moment to complete our survey.
