Joe has revealed that over the last decade Kilwinning Academy has received less capital investment than any other secondary school in North Ayrshire.
Since 2005 £1.6million in capital investment has been spent on Kilwinning Academy of which £556,000 has been on replacing windows, £300,000 was on the KA Fitness Suite and over £40,000 was on asbestos related works (the highest of any secondary school). An additional £94,000 has been invested from the Council’s revenue budget for the school’s door access system and lift.
Councillor Cullinane has argued that the figures add weight to the case for investment in the school that he, parents, pupils and the wider Kilwinning community are campaigning for.
Speaking about the figures Councillor Cullinane said,
“These figures confirm that Kilwinning Academy has not received the investment that it requires over many years and it makes our case for investment in the school even stronger.”
“Our campaign does not begrudge the investment that other schools in North Ayrshire have received. In fact it is the exact opposite; we want to see every child in North Ayrshire taught in 21st century facilities that provide the best educational setting for our pupils. That’s why, given the lack of investment in Kilwinning Academy, we are arguing it should be our time to see significant investment made in our school.”
“The campaign has received widespread support already and I hope that the people of Kilwinning continue to add their support.”
