Joe Cullinane

Scottish Labour Councillor for Kilwinning

Reason 23: Action on Zero Hour Contracts

Reason_-_(2).png

When Joe asked North Ayrshire Council how many zero hour contracts they had in 2013 they told him they had none.

When he asked how many casual contracts with no guaranteed hours they had he was told there was over 900!

In September 2013 Joe moved a motion at North Ayrshire Council opposing zero hour contracts and asking for a review of the Council's own casual contracts.....

The motion passed and the subsequent review conducted by the Scrutiny Committee resulted in all Council Departments being asked to continuously review the use of casual contracts and where possible move those employees onto regular contracts with guaranteed hours.

Despite this the numbers continued to rise > http://www.joecullinane.co.uk/number_of_zero_hour_contracts_at_north_ayrshire_council_on_the_rise_again

But Joe didn't give up and kept pushing the issue.....

And recently it was confirmed that over 200 council employees have been moved from casual contracts to regular contracts > http://www.joecullinane.co.uk/cullinane_welcomes_the_news_that_133_casual_workers_have_secured_guaranteed_hours

Joe will continue to campaign against zero hour contracts.
