Reason 7: Stopped a Poverty Porn TV show in Stevenston

In November 2014 Channel 5 bosses sent researchers to Stevenston to look for people to take part in their next Poverty Porn TV show - http://www.ardrossanherald.com/news/13725606.Stevenston_in_line_for__Poverty_Porn__TV/

These shows, such as The Scheme and Benefits Street, take advantage of people and pit the working poor against the unemployed poor. Joe wasn't going to sit back and allow Stevenston to be the next community to be taken advantage of by TV bosses.

He joined Labour Councillor Jim Montgomerie in writing to Channel 5 bosses. The pair made it clear that they would oppose any attempt to take advantage of our community and would actively campaign against it > http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/local-news/dont-make-new-benefits-street-4774953

When TV bosses didn't respond within a month they launched a petition against the plan > http://www.joecullinane.co.uk/povertyporn

Hours later Channel 5 announced they had ditched their plans > http://www.ardrossanherald.com/news/13725819.Stevenston__poverty_porn__show_binned/

People pressure won the day and Joe was proud to play his part.
