Joe Cullinane

Scottish Labour Councillor for Kilwinning

School let charges abolished

Joe's budget amendment sees the charges levied on schools to hire their own school facilities abolished, funded by cutting the lunches provided to Councillors and Officers.

Joe has been campaigning against these charges ever since he revealed that Kilwinning Academy was charged £933 to hire their school hall to put on their school show, Grease.

He later revealed that, over the last three years, schools throughout North Ayrshire have been charged £48,000 to hire their own facilities.

Commenting on his successful amendment to cut lunches to abolish school let charges, Joe said;

“I have been campaigning to abolish these charges ever since I revealed that Kilwinning Academy was charged £933 to hire their own school facilities to put on their school show.”

“I believed the policy to be unfair and the Parent Council’s that I have engaged with over the issue agreed.”

“I am pleased that, by cutting the lunches that the Council provides to Councillors and Officers, we have been able to abolish these unfair charges. Schools will now be able to provide their pupils with the extra-curricular activities that aid their development without having to take money out their own budgets to hire their own school.”
